Using the chat assistant
The chat is the fastest way to work on your resume. The assistant reads and edits your actual resume data through tools — it's not just giving advice, it's making the changes.
What it can do
- Edit any section — rewrite experience bullets, tighten summaries, regroup skills, fix inconsistencies.
- Tailor to a job — paste a job description and ask it to emphasize what matters for the role. See Tailoring & cover letters.
- Generate PDFs — ask for a rendered resume right in the conversation and download it from the reply.
- Write cover letters — grounded in your resume and the job you're targeting.
When the assistant uses a tool, a badge appears in the conversation showing what it did — so you can see exactly which operations touched your data.
Working with a selected job
If you start from a job on your Jobs board, the chat runs with that job as context. Tailored resumes and cover letters generated in the conversation are automatically linked to that job, so you'll find them on the job's card later.
Tips for better results
- Be specific about the target. "Emphasize the platform migration work for this staff engineer posting" beats "make it better."
- Work in passes. Tailor first, then ask for a tighter summary, then render — small steps are easier to review than one giant rewrite.
- Set standing instructions once. If you always want the same tone or length, save default tailoring instructions on your Account page instead of repeating them every chat.
Review everything
The assistant works from your data and won't invent employers or degrees, but AI output still needs your judgment — check names, numbers, and claims before a resume goes to an employer.
Conversations
Your conversations are saved, so you can leave and pick up where you stopped. Start a new conversation when you switch topics or jobs — context from a long, unrelated thread can water down results.
